The Museum of Cambridge is a small and lively independent museum located in the historic Castle Hill area, adjacent to Kettle’s Yard. The trustee role is voluntary, giving successful candidates a chance to use their expertise to drive income generation and commercial practices, as well as boost the museum's fundraising potential.
Transitional Project Officer Annie Davis says: "We are for and about Cambridge. We are a popular visitor destination and work with communities across the City, providing a wide range of outreach activities and events.
"The Museum occupies the former White Horse Inn, a 17th century Grade II listed building, the only publicly accessible historic building in Cambridge that preserves its original interior. Our Folklife collection together with our childhood collection, is one of the most important social history collections in the region, based on the work of the folklorist Enid Porter.
"We are currently putting in place a number of major changes to our governance and management. Our two main priorities over the coming years will be to develop our fundraising capacity and ensure that our finances are well managed with robust systems in place. We also need to continue to develop our research and curation of the collections, explore the important role that our Museum plays in contemporary Cambridge.
"To help take the Museum forward we are seeking to appoint up to four new Trustees to join our Trust Board who can bring skills and experience in financial management (treasurer role), fundraising, commercial operation, buildings maintenance and a knowledge of social and local history.
"The role of Trustee is non-executive, providing a rewarding opportunity to use your expertise and experience to support and help shape our future.
"We anticipate that the Trust Board will meet four times a year to set and review our strategic and business objectives. Trustees will also engage with the Business Boards, providing support and advice in their areas of expertise. We are aware that trustees have other commitments and lead busy lives but willingness to become more involved in the Museum’s activities, helping with occasional events or working with the collections would be welcomed."
