New apprentice opportunities at Domino Printing

A Cambridge company is inviting applications for its award-winning Apprenticeship Scheme for 2024, launching to coincide with National Apprentice Week (5th-11th February). Domino Printing is offering four roles across its business: one in Formulation Chemistry, one in Software, one in Supply Chain and one in Continuous Improvement. Entry levels for each vary from open entry through to A-level or HNC level 3 or 4.

Three roles are based at its Bar Hill headquarters, with the position in Continuous Improvement at the company’s plant in Liverpool.

All of the apprentices will be given a structured programme which starts with foundation modules and then progresses to six-monthly rotations in order to experience different areas of the business. On-the-job training is complemented by day release study at a local college or a distance learning course.

Cheta Nwandu started on the Scheme in 2023 and is currently based in the Mechanical Design Team where she is using CAD to create models and drawings to improve parts involved with the testing of printers.

She says: “I wanted to learn in the workplace and I particularly liked the Domino Scheme which allows for rotations in various departments to acquire a range of skills. Combining study with on-the-job training gives a well-rounded understanding of concepts from theory to application and the chance to learn from experts who can offer key tips.

“My longer-term career plan is to complete my Engineering Degree (BEng) and then continue working in the industry, having gained skills and knowledge that will be transferable to other branches of engineering.”

Engineering Apprentice Peter Mizuro wanted to learn in a hands-on way, as well as earn a wage and be supported by industry professionals at the same time. In 2023, he was shortlisted for Make UK’s Apprentice Rising Star Award.

He says: “I am currently working in the Systems Team which is responsible for integrating the different systems within the printer, including developing new technologies, integration testing of new variants and fault-finding problems from the field. The role allows me to use and develop a range of technical skills and I enjoy the variety of the disciplines required.

“Working and studying alongside each other can be challenging but using skills gained at work – such as time management – can often enhance studying. Long term, I would like to have the opportunity to lead a team of engineers”.

Rosie Celentano, Domino HR Adviser concludes: “Since we started our Scheme in 2016, 34  apprentices have benefitted from being able to earn whilst they learn. This year we are again offering four positions and looking forward to receiving applications from school-leavers at differing stages.”

The closing date for applications is 28th February, with interviews held in March and the Scheme starting in September. For further information and to apply online:
