New plans for hospital, hotel and education complex published

Cambridge residents and businesses are invited to attend a consultation event next Thursday (December 5) about plans to create a hospital, hotel and education complex on the Addenbrooke’s Hospital site.

The development will create more than 300 construction jobs and in excess of 500 people will be employed in the completed facility.

The Forum Cambridge will be a significant development on the Addenbrooke’s site, at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC). The high-quality, new development at The Forum will house an integrated education centre, private hospital and four-star hotel with conference facilities and car parking.

Forum Cambridge LLP, a joint venture between Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) and John Laing, is about to go out to public consultation on detailed development proposals for The Forum Cambridge.

The first major project of its kind in the NHS, CUH will receive an annual income and a share of the profits over the life of the contract. All of this money will go to supporting and enhancing the delivery of patient care at CUH’s two hospitals, Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie.

Peter Ward, Director of Healthcare Projects at John Laing and partner in Forum Cambridge LLP, said: “All the different elements of the Forum are designed to work efficiently with each other and remove barriers to collaboration. By co-locating, co-operating and sharing resources and expertise, all the parts of the development will come together in a ‘Forum’ where leading clinicians and academics work together to set new standards of excellence and innovation in healthcare.”

Dr Keith McNeil, chief executive of CUH, said: “The Forum is a key component of the strategic plan for the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It will provide a great opportunity for clinicians and research professionals from Cambridge and around the globe to collaborate on innovative research and practices. We are very optimistic that it will prove to be a great success not only for the Trust and its patients, but for Cambridge and UK plc as well.”

Following previous consultation, outline planning permission for The Forum was granted in 2009 but some aspects of the scheme have changed. The Forum Cambridge team is now working towards the preparation of a new detailed planning application. Local residents, businesses and interested parties are invited to view the proposals, meet the design team, and provide feedback before plans are finalised. Consultation information will also be available online, including a feedback form, from Friday 6 December at www.cambridgeforumconsultation.com

The public consultation will run until 20 December 2013 after which time all feedback received will be reviewed as the designs are finalised for a full planning application. It is anticipated that the application will be submitted to Cambridge City Council in early 2014.

The public consultation event is on Thursday 5 December 2013 between 5pm to 8pm
The Boardroom, Addenbrooke’s Hospital (main entrance), Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 0QQ
