Next steps for Cambridge Climate Charter

Local MP Daniel Zeichner has backed a new push for Cambridge businesses to go green by adopting the Cambridge Climate Charter ahead of "From Ambition to Action", an online event taking place on Monday (30th November).

The Cambridge Climate Charter first launched in September at an online event attended by Mr Zeichner and over 150 local people. But Cambridge Carbon Footprint say success will only come if both individuals, and crucially local companies, are full square behind the plan.

Pledges made as part of the scheme will already see 115.33t of CO2 saved over the next year.

But 49% of Cambridge’s greenhouse gas emissions come from industry and commercial sources so Cambridge's MP is backing calls for as many businesses as possible to sign the Charter.

Cambridge Carbon Footprint says: "There is a huge appetite from people within businesses and organisations to play a part in moving towards net zero, but many find it difficult to know where to begin."

All companies who sign the Charter will be able to attend a series of online seminars to support their green efforts. Seminars will address what expertise and resources they will need to help them reduce their Carbon footprint as well as best practice for setting up an action plan to improvements energy usage.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: "There is a global climate emergency and the planet is changing rapidly. But what we do locally will make a difference. That is why I welcome this practical initiative which is not about shaming people and businesses but about offering help, advice and support."
