Project 160

Would you like to be part of the evolution of cannabis science? Great, then walk this way.

Would you like to be part of the evolution of cannabis science?

CANNTalks is a multidisciplinary platform for the discussion of medicinal cannabis, the science of the plant herself, and how we interact with her - biologically, socially, and ethically.

According to Dr Roger Pertwee, there are approximately 160 powerful compounds in the plant (known as cannabinoids), which bind to receptors in our bodies and that are a part of our endocannabinoid system. And, apart from sounding like a far off galaxy in Star Trek, our endocannabinoid system plays a vital role in how our body regulates and balances itself, and it was, indeed, named after the plant that led to its discovery. We have endogenous cannabinoids flowing throughout our bodies; and, interestingly, multiple studies show that a person who is unwell, or is suffering with anxiety, is naturally lower in endogenous cannabinoids - whilst confident and/or healthy subjects may be much higher. These are, of course, relatively new theories; but, still quite amazingly, doctors do not study the endocannabinoid system in their training.

But... that's enough science and speculation for right now, because Project 160 is all about YOU.

To mirror the 160 known cannabinoids, CANNTalks is reaching out to 160 small businesses, organisations, and institutions across Cambridgeshire; so as to integrate your ideas, questions, and perspectives - via interviews, essays, discussions, and articles - into our own creative and expansive reflective system, with your endorsement, input, and viewpoint at its very heart.

Project 160 is a part of CANNTalks’s two-part pilot conference at The Old Divinity School, St John’s College, Cambridge, this summer; with guest speakers from California, New York, Canada, and Australia, amongst others. In addition to research fellows from the University of Cambridge, UCL, Sheffield and Hallam, King’s College, London - as well as Dr Derek Tracy, of the NHS and the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.

By joining Project 160, you will contribute to the platform’s curation, through your ideas and responses. By discovering and sharing dialogue, your ideas will help to shape the future and the culture around trans-global reform - literally as it happens, in real time, all around us.

This is a call out to any and all, and we look forward to hearing from you.
