A rising visit: Daniel to break bread at the Cambridge Oven for Sourdough September

Daniel Zeichner MP will be celebrating the best thing since sliced bread this Friday, 12 September, as he visits The Cambridge Oven, 44 Hills Rd, Cambridge CB2 1LA, to mark Sourdough September and celebrate the art of real bread.

Daniel Zeichner and Cambridge Oven

Daniel is a loyal customer of the much-loved, family-run artisan bakery in the heart of the Hills Road community. Founded by artisan baker Jolita, whose passion for baking was inspired by her farmer mother and classically trained baker grandmother, the bakery has quickly become known for its authentic, additive-free sourdoughs, breads, and pastries.

Every loaf at The Cambridge Oven is made fresh each morning from scratch with locally sourced, organic ingredients, in line with the bakery’s membership of the Real Bread Campaign. The result is bread that not only tastes exceptional, but also reflects a commitment to sustainable, traditional methods. From signature sourdoughs to vegan-friendly cakes and cookies, The Cambridge Oven has become a staple for those seeking real, honest food in Cambridge.

Daniel’s visit comes as part of Sourdough September – an annual, nationwide celebration launched by the Real Bread Campaign in 2013 to champion the nutritional, cultural and community value of sourdough baking. Throughout the month, bakeries, home bakers and bread lovers come together to highlight the joy of working with wild yeast and flour, share knowledge, and encourage people to start their own sourdough cultures.

Commenting ahead of his visit, Daniel said: “The Cambridge Oven is a brilliant example of the passion and skill that makes real bread so special, and I’m particularly fond of their sourdough. Jolita and her team show how traditional baking can thrive in our city, and I’m delighted to be celebrating Sourdough September with them. Supporting local bakeries like this is not just about good food – it’s about keeping alive the traditions that produce it.”
