Staff from Skanska, a leading construction and development company, spent a week volunteering at Papworth Trust’s Cambridge Centre as part of a long-term commitment to support the disability charity.

The joint venture, which saw Skanska work closely with sub-contractors, Papworth Trust staff and people supported by the centre, was officially opened in a ceremony at the Hawthorn Way centre.

Jo Revitt, corporate partnership fundraiser from Papworth Trust, said: “We are so grateful to the team at Skanska for their fantastic work in renovating our Cambridge Centre garden.

“They worked very closely with our staff and clients to include them in the design of the garden.

“As well as improving the landscape and laying new paths, they also laid special non-slip matting in the garden which will be particularly beneficial to disabled people using wheelchairs and mobility aids – improving their confidence when spending time in the garden.”

Skanska will be supporting Papworth Trust for the duration of their construction project of the new Papworth Hospital which is scheduled to be completed in spring 2018.

Kevin Kilcoyne, Project Director from Skanska, is leading the construction of the new Papworth Hospital. He said: “When the Papworth Trust asked for our help to transform the Cambridge Centre outside space we were happy to get involved. It’s amazing what can be achieved when people come together to focus on a common goal and we are pleased that our efforts have made a positive difference in the local community.”

Papworth Trust’s Cambridge Centre offers a range of leisure and learning activities as well as work, training and business skills.
