Storywriting, socialising and upskilling to help stay sane in the coronavirus crisis

If you want to learn how to write a book, a tale of these troubled times, or your life story, as well as socialise and safeguard your sanity in the coronavirus crisis, a new series of free webinars can help.

Designed by a partnership of the Cambridge Network and storytelling agency Creative Warehouse in response to requests for evening events with a relaxed theme, The Storywriting Social will be entertaining and enjoyable, ideal for sharing with new friends over a glass of wine.

But you’ll also learn a fascinating and fulfilling new skill – how to write and tell powerful stories.

The series covers all you need to know to write a successful story - from a striking start to an enduring ending, and every element in between.

Featuring how to create characters who rise from the page to live real lives, settings so real you can smell them, the twists and turns of compelling storytelling, how to find your unique writer’s voice, and even the art of conjuring up a good title.

Simon, who has taught writing at universities, libraries, and to writers’ groups across Europe, said, “Storytelling is such a beautiful and powerful art. Working on the plan for my new book, and writing some of the scenes, has helped give me an escape from the coronavirus crisis and keep me sane.

“I’m lucky enough to have supported quite a few aspiring writers into publication. I’m looking forward to sharing the joy of writing with more people, and getting to know some new friends, to help us all through these troubled times.

“The great thing about storytelling is you only realise how powerful it is once you start thinking about it. Crack the art and you’ll find it indispensable in both your professional and personal life.”

No membership, fee, or subscription is required to join the course. It’s open to all, completely free, on a first come, first served basis.

Chief Executive of the Cambridge Network, John Gourd, said, “The Cambridge Network has focused a lot of its attention on helping businesses in the area survive the current crisis, but we are also acutely aware of the help we can provide the employees of these companies and the wider community.

“We are hoping that these new, later, sessions will appeal to those not just looking to develop a new skill, but to socialise as well."

The series of six webinars will be held once a week, on a Thursday evening, at 7.30pm - starting next week on 16th April - with each session lasting for around an hour.
