Students will be working on a solar thermal installation project as well as demonstrating the use of
polystyrene building blocks at a pop-up energy centre during the show – the UK’s largest skills and careers event for young people.
More than 75,000 pupils from schools across the country are expected to visit the Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham, a celebration of further education, skills and apprenticeships.
John Malone, head of the Construction and Engineering faculty at CRC, said the students would be demonstrating their skills to thousands of visitors.
“We will be helping to promote vocational learning to a huge audience and showcasing some of the skills our students learn at CRC,” he said.
“Renewable energy is central to the today’s construction industry and a key part of everything we teach to our construction students. We were delighted to once again be chosen to demonstrate renewable technologies and modern methods of construction to the thousands of visitors to the Skills Show.”
The students will answer questions as they work and explain the skills they are using to visitors. There will also be ‘have a go’ activities where visitors the chance to try their hand at building with energy-efficient polystyrene bricks, as well as work with plumbing materials.
The Skills Show takes place over three days from 14 to 16 November. For more information see www.theskillsshow.com/the-skills-show.
