What’s really shaping performance in organisations and what remains hidden

There is often more capability present in organisations than is visible in the results being achieved. What sits behind that isn’t always obvious, and understanding it can change where effort is best applied. This thinking sits behind the launch of Enkindle Insight, a practitioner‑led diagnostic designed to make those patterns more visible.

There is a think rose coloured line at the top of the image, a bold title with the words, 'Understanding what shapes performance in practice, with three gold boxes underneath saying 'capability, decsion- making and working conditions'. They are connected by dual directional arrows.

Many organisations today are operating under increasing cost pressure, while still being expected to deliver consistent results.

In that context, there is often a strong focus on what needs to change, what to add, adjust or improve. But less attention is given to understanding what is already happening inside the organisation, and how that is shaping day‑to‑day performance.

As organisations grow, effort tends to increase quickly. Activity expands, teams get busier, and expectations rise. But progress does not always accelerate at the same rate.

From the outside, things may appear to be working well. Internally, it can feel more complex. Effort does not always translate into progress. Decisions are made with good intent, but do not always play out consistently as organisations grow. Capability exists across the business, but is not always fully realised in how work happens in practice.

This is not typically a question of individual performance. It is more often shaped by how leadership approach, working conditions and organisational practices interact over time.

In many organisations, there is more capability present than is visible in the results being achieved. But without a clear view of what is shaping day‑to‑day performance, it can be difficult to know where to act, and where further intervention may not be needed.

Enkindle Insight was developed in response to this.

It is a practitioner‑led organisational diagnostic designed to make visible the patterns shaping capability, pressure and decision‑making, particularly those that are present but not always easy to see clearly.

Rather than prescribing solutions, it provides a structured view of what is influencing how work happens in practice. This allows organisations to make more considered decisions about where to focus effort, and where to hold back.

This can be particularly relevant in organisations where:

  • cost pressures are increasing
  • expectations of performance remain high
  • there is limited appetite for unnecessary change

In these environments, adding more activity is not always the answer. Often, greater clarity about what is already happening provides a more effective starting point.

Enkindle Insight offers organisations a way to step back, understand what is shaping performance beneath the surface, and take action based on a clearer view of how the organisation is functioning in practice.
