Young entrepreneur passes on secrets of success

A teenage entrepreneur who is running his own tailoring business has been passing on some tips for success to young business students at Cambridge Regional College.

Eighteen year-old Harry Day, already the head of a successful company and winner of the Peter Jones National Entrepreneur of the Year award 2013, was at CRC to talk to students in the college’s Peter Jones Enterprise Academy.

The one-year course focuses on entrepreneurship, with students setting up and running their own businesses, mentored by experts from the Cambridge business community.

Harry, from Solihull, launched his company – Harry Day Tailoring – when he spotted a gap in the market for smart men’s tailoring after struggling to find a well-fitting suit for a prom event.

He told the students that youth and enthusiasm were a great combination for setting up a business.

“Being young is the best time to start up a business. Don’t be afraid to ask and just be a bit cheeky. Communication is also very important – you need to make sure you get your ideas across,” he said.

Paul Herbert, head of the Peter Jones Academy at CRC, said the students had been inspired by the young entrepreneur’s visit.

“Seeing someone of their own age running a successful business after graduating from the Academy was very inspiring for the students,” he said.

“The PJEA course is all about enterprise and learning through experience; we are really grateful to Harry sharing his experiences - both good and bad. It really has focused our budding entrepreneurs on how much they can achieve through dedication and hard work."
