That’s exactly what Microsoft’s new Copilot Dashboard feature, called Benchmarks, is designed to show.
It sits inside Viva Insights (part of Microsoft 365) and gives you a clear view of how staff are using Copilot. And how that compares with similar organisations.
Benchmarks can show:
- How many people actively use Copilot
- Which apps they use it in
- How often they return to it
But it doesn’t stop there.
It can also compare your usage with other schools, colleges, trusts, and businesses of a similar size, sector, or region. In simple terms, you can see whether your organisation is leading on AI… or falling behind.
You may worry about privacy. Sharing data always raises questions. And rightly so.
Microsoft says all external data is anonymised, grouped, and processed through secure models to protect individuals and organisations.
From a leadership point of view, this is a smart move.
Many organisations have been slow to adopt AI properly, even when the benefits are clear. Studies show that only a small number of AI pilot projects ever move beyond testing. Most fail because teams struggle to change habits, processes, and culture.
Benchmarks can help you see exactly where adoption is stalling, and where it is working well.
Some staff may feel uneasy at first. No one wants to feel monitored. This is about improvement, not blame.
