The Laboratory System Administrator will support the day to day operation of the IT equipment and its associated laboratory instrumentation at Abzena Cambridge laboratories. The Laboratory System Administrator will also be expected to troubleshoot any IT issues that arise and in conjunction with the scientific group heads plan for future upgrades or improvements.

A key component of the role is the ability to troubleshoot problems within the laboratories, work with the scientific staff, instrument vendors and our own IT support staff. Ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratories is a key success criteria. Additionally, the ability to perform helpdesk and deskside support is integral to the role.

Responsibilities

    • Support the Laboratory IT systems, this will involve all aspects of the lifecycle, from inputting into purchase plans, supporting operational systems, to decommissioning redundant systems
    • Key laboratory systems include Cytiva Unicorn, Waters Unifi, Dotmatics ELN and Chromeleon.
    • Supporting the scientists with laboratory related issues, from networking issues to recovery of data
    • Manage the data acquisition, ensuring that data is captured with the minimum of human interaction, also that data is backed up in accordance with policy
    • Enforcing policies and SOP’s in the lab
    • Work with the other IT teams members (internal and external) to support the wider Abzena user base
    • Ensuring that new equipment/systems are aligned with the guiding principles of IT (Cloud first, security focused etc.)
    • Maintain an accurate and current inventory of all systems in the labs
    • Undertake the user administration of lab systems, data backups, and upgrade planning
    • Complies with Abzena’s policies and procedures
    • Adheres to quality standards set by regulations and Abzena’s policies, procedures and mission
    • Communicates effectively with supervisors, colleagues and subordinates
    • Ability to participate effectively as a team player in all aspects of Abzena’s business
    • Travels as needed for professional conferences and training opportunities
    • Responsible for exhibiting professional behaviour with both internal and external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices

Qualifications

    • 5 years working in IT desireable
    • Proficient using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Teams etc)
    • Awareness of IT security best practices
    • ITIL Foundation
    • Awareness of Networking, VLAN segregation desired
    • Previous experience in life sciences desired
    • Dotmatics ELN experience preferable

£26,000 - £29,000 a year
