Internal applications are invited for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Translational Research Manager.
The successful candidate will manage the Urological Malignancies Virtual Institute (UMVI) translational research team. The Translational Research Manager (TRM) will ensure all clinical samples are appropriately recorded and stored in line with relevant legislation and local practices/guidelines. The TRM will lead, delegate, conduct and audit sample collection, sample records and lab work. The role holder will also maintain robust, real-time records on sample analysis. We expect the TRM to contribute scientifically to sampling and analytical plans and to manage the operational deployment of the translational team to meet goals and milestones. The TRM should have a strong scientific background with extensive lab experience alongside excellent project management skills. The Urological Malignancies Programme is an important component part of the CRUK Cambridge Cancer Centre which is led by Professor Richard Gilbertson FRS. Led by Professor Grant Stewart and Dr Brent O'Carrigan, the UMP members are working together to improve outcomes for patients with urological cancers. The CRUK Cambridge Centre is renowned nationally and internationally and benefits from a major commitment from Cancer Research UK, recognising Cambridge's position at the forefront of cancer research.
Our main work centres around translational clinical studies, which obtain blood, tissue, stool and urine samples from patients with urological cancers (i.e. kidney, prostate and bladder), and provides them to our researchers to help us understand the mechanisms by which urological cancers arise, progress and evade detection.
Our team is small and focused, with a busy daily schedule. Daily activities include consenting patients to research studies, obtaining biological samples, completing case report forms, entering data onto clinical research databases, and maintaining study documentation.
You will need the ability to work in a self-directed, independent and flexible manner, and enjoy working in a small team where members have a wide range of skills and backgrounds. Some out of hours working is required to collect and process samples from early morning and late running surgeries.
Informal enquiries may be made to Mrs Carley Batley, the Urological Malignancies Programme Manager in the first instance ([email protected]). Further information on our group can be found at our website: https://www.cambridge-urologicalmalignancies.org.uk
