Would you know if you’d been hacked?

The sad truth is, hackers can get into your devices, fill them with malware, send emails from your accounts, and even access your bank account … and you wouldn’t know until it was too late.

This happens to businesses every day.

Forewarned is forearmed, so here are some signs that a device in your business has been compromised.

1) It’s so slooooooooooow. If a device is more sluggish than usual, or is getting hot, you could have malware. It will be working overtime to run the extra software, leaving your other applications to slow down. And because of all this extra work, the heat rises. You know that’s not good for the health of your device.

2) Your data usage has rocketed. If malware is working away in the background, it’ll be using up your bandwidth. Check your data usage regularly and you’ll notice if there are any unwarranted spikes in use.

3) Things won’t load. If videos won’t play and trying to load a website makes you remember the bad old days of dial-up, then you may have malware.

4) Weird emails. Receiving strange email responses may mean your email account has been breached. Keep an eye on your sent folder. But unusual emails may also be a sign that other accounts, such as social media, or even bank accounts have been breached. Vigilance is key.

5) Apps keep crashing. This can be a sign that you have a problem - especially if your task manager or antivirus software crash or are disabled. If this happens, try restarting in safe mode to deal with any unfamiliar software. Better still, contact your IT support provider to do the hard work for you.
