Apprenticeships information event is aimed at parents

Apprenticeships will be top of the agenda at a special open evening at Cambridge Regional College – for parents, rather than students.

The information session on Wednesday, 2 December will have apprenticeship specialists and apprentices on hand to answer questions from parents after a presentation by Assistant Principal Paul Skitt.

With surveys showing that many parents don’t feel they know enough about apprenticeships, the evening will provide facts and figures to help parents advise their sons and daughters on career options.

The event takes place in the college’s Park Restaurant on Wednesday, 2 December from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Angela Hughes, head of apprenticeship programmes at the college, said it was a great opportunity for parents to find out more about the benefits of apprenticeships and the different levels of programmes available.

“A large number of parents say they don’t know enough about apprenticeships so this is an event just for them, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and talk to the experts, as well as to students who are now on an apprenticeship programme,” she said.

“Last year we held our first parents’ evening for apprenticeships and it proved a big success – more than 150 parents came along so there is obviously a great need for information. Apprenticeship programmes go up to degree level and are a real alternative to university.”
