ARU partnership to Spark interest in data science

Anglia Ruskin University is partnering with Cambridge Spark to provide three new data science courses to help employers develop the talent and expertise needed across all industries.

The partners have worked together to design three new routes, two of which are degree apprenticeships; a BSc (Hons) Data Science; and an MSc Digital and Technology Solutions (Data Analytics). The third is an MSc Data Science distance learning course and is open to anyone; individuals and employers, international and UK-based.

Data science combines disciplines such as statistics, data analysis, and machine learning in order to interpret data and inform decision-making. Data scientists are needed across all industries and the demand is increasing. According to a 2018 survey by MHR Analytics, about 80% of UK companies are planning to hire data scientists or seek data consultancy this year.

Dr Domenico Vicinanza, course leader in MSc Data Science at ARU, said: “Cambridge Spark are leaders in Data Science training, and ARU are leaders in providing Degree Apprenticeships. The partnership is about bringing together the skills and expertise of both organisations to provide a solution to develop the talent and expertise that industry needs.”

Raoul-Gabriel Urma, Founder of Cambridge Spark, said: “Data Scientists bring enormous value to businesses because they are uniquely capable of applying powerful data analytics to unlock valuable insights to inform decision making.

“Data Science is one of the most in-demand skillsets required across all industries and smart organisations are utilising the Apprenticeship Levy to cost-effectively develop their workforce using degree apprenticeships.”

Each new course will have places for about 20 students. All three will begin in September, and applications are now open. Contact degreesatwork@anglia.ac.uk for more details.
