Bircham Dyson Bell further expands Cambridge office with senior lateral hire

Leading law firm Bircham Dyson Bell (BDB) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Thompson as a Partner in its Family Team. David joins BDB from Charles Russell Speechlys.

David’s practice encompasses a broad range of matrimonial disputes with a particular focus on complex financial and international matters; he has a wealth of experience in family law instructions with jurisdictional cross-border trust and company dimensions. Alongside his practice, David is the current Chair of the London Region of Resolution (the leading national organisation for family lawyers), and is also a member of the Cambridge Regional Committee. In his new role, David will work closely with his Cambridge and London based colleagues in BDB’s Family Team advising high net worth clients in matrimonial matters.

The Family Team at BDB is cited in one of the principal legal directories, Chambers & Partners 2018 for the “high quality of the service” it provides. The Team is particularly noted for its expertise in complex financial cases involving family trusts, businesses and international assets.

BDB opened its Cambridge office in January 2017 and the firm’s Hills Road office has expanded its offering rapidly over the last 18 months to meet increasing client demand in the city. David will work closely with the other Cambridge Partners including Commercial Property Partner, Simon Burson and Corporate and Commercial Partners, Duncan Walker and James Stephen, to further grow the Cambridge office.

David Thompson, Partner at BDB, says of his appointment: “BDB is a dynamic firm and continues to go from strength to strength. It will be a privilege to contribute to BDB’s growth in Cambridge and I look forward to offering the high quality advice that BDB’s clients expect.”

Andrew Smith, Managing Partner of BDB, comments: “I am delighted to welcome David Thompson to BDB as a Family Partner. David’s extensive experience aligns seamlessly with the Family Team’s expertise and he will be a valuable addition to our Cambridge office. As a firm we continue to invest in growth through key external hires as well as nurturing our internal talent and Cambridge is a key focus for that.”
