Alex Winton-Smith who works on the busy Lady Mary Ward at the Rosie Maternity Hospital in Cambridge delivered tiny Theo Yeldham several months ago when the film crew were looking for newborn babies to take part in the series.
Theo played a baby being born in episode 4 of Call the Midwife when Jenny (Jessica Raine) suffers the loss of her boyfriend in a terrible accident and new girl Sister Winifred (Victoria Yeates) overcomes her squeamishness to become a birthing heroine in her own right. Theo Yeldham played the baby being born to Kitty Chubb who needed a teddy to help her through labour.
Alex said, “Theo’s mum Hannah had signed him up to a TV agency and the BBC was looking specifically for newborns for the series. When I saw him on the TV I felt surprisingly proud that I had helped bring him into the world!”.
Mum Hannah Yeldham from Gamlingay who also works at the Rosie Hospital said “Theo’s already built quite a name for himself in the world of showbiz. As well as Call the Midwife he’s also been in Holby City as Dr Jac Naylor’s baby (Emma). The storyline has been about the baby so he had a big role in this! He’s also had a brief appearance in Eastenders and will be in two more TV shows later in the year. One for the BBC and one for Sky. So it’s all go!”

‘Call the Midwife’ gets some professional help from The Rosie

A real-life midwife has been describing how she delivered one of the first babies to appear on the hit BBC TV series Call the Midwife.
