Cambridge China Centre sets the scene for powerful working relationships

The carefully selected audience included senior representatives from commerce and universities, along with key partners and influential advisors.

Cambridge China Centre, founded by Jinzhao Li, together with co-founders Zonghui Yang, Jiajin Wang and Weimin Liis set to establish exclusive working relationships between Cambridge and China; a new and unique approach to a localised membership and networking organisation.

And with Cambridge and China both holding enviable reputations in the world of science, technology and education, Monday’s audience was a symbolic representation of them all. Guests arrived early evening and joined a welcoming networking environment where they were invited to chat and mingle over teas and coffees.

The evening formally began in the main lecture hall with a warm welcome from Xu Jin, Minister Counsellor from the Chinese Embassy UK. The launch of Cambridge China Centre marks a significant step forward for Xu. So important was this launch, he committed to a 4-hour round trip from London to attend the event for a mere 30 minutes.

He commented, “The Centre is the brainchild of an extremely talented and influential team, creating the foundations for much needed common ground that will bring the UK and China even closer together.”

Jinzhao Li, one of the founding members, was next to take to the stage and hosted an impressive presentation where she talked openly about the significance of Cambridge China Centre. She highlighted their aspirations for the new venture and its vision for the foreseeable future. Jinzhao said “Behind today’s launch, there were over 10,000 hours’ full-heated preparation work. We will endeavor to connect people with people, culture with culture, and business with business between Cambridge and China, and we have expectations that the Centre will be a game-changer in strengthening the parallels between Cambridge and China.”

She continued “These two wonderful and historic places have held a long-standing and special relationship for decades and our mission is to combine all that is special in Cambridge with all that is precious in China.”

Fully in support of this approach and ideology was Dr Wei Sun, Chair of the Advisory Board of Cambridge China Centre & Chair of Cambridge Chinese Community Centre. He commented “The opportunity has been created for the development of strong and lasting working relationships within the fields of science, technology and education. There is every potential that this initiative will successfully connect individuals across business, trade and government.”

Jinzhao Li and her team are also hosting a Cambridge China Forum in September, in partnership with the China Management Centre, Cambridge Judge Business School. Judge representative, Dr Eden Yin, University Senior Lecturer in Marketing was delighted to attend the launch event and see this exciting concept come to fruition.

He commented “This is a sound proposition for all involved in the working relationships between Cambridge and China and we are very much looking forward to co-hosting the inaugural Forum later this year.”

In all, the evening was a true meeting of minds and encouraged people to network after the formal presentations, whilst Cambridge University Chinese Orchestra played wonderful music in the background. Guests delighted in discussing Cambridge China Centre and its important role for the future before departing with great memories of the evening and promising expectations of the future.
