Johnson Matthey, up 2.0%, announced that its annual revenues jumped 6.5% YoY to £10.7b. However, profit before tax fell to £386.3m from £495.3m in the previous year. The company stated that the structural drivers for its technologies will remain robust despite challenging macroeconomic conditions which are expected to continue in 2016-17. It also announced that Dr Jane Griffiths has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the company, with effect from 01 January 2017. The stock received mixed ratings from many brokers.
Cambridge Cognition Holdings, up 2.5%, announced that it has entered into a reseller distribution agreement with AnthroTronix, a US-based engineering R&D firm. The company will now have the distribution rights to sell AnthroTronix’s brain health assessment product, DANA™, to European military organisations and occupational health providers.
Amino Technologies, which remained flat at 101.0p, announced that Mark Carlisle has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as well as a member of the Board of Directors and will join on 22 August 2016. Julian Sanders will continue to serve as Interim CFO till then. Separately, it announced that its subsidiary, Amino Communications, has signed a new contract with MCTV, a North American service provider. Amino will provide its Kamai 450m and Amulet 455m TV devices to deliver cable TV service & online video through MCTV’s ‘watchTVeverywhere’ service. Shares of the company climbed as much as 4% on 06 June as it reported a robust performance in the first half year trading update with record orders and new contract wins.
Xaar, down 1.0%, announced that it has formed a partnership with Ricoh, a global technology company, to develop expertise in Thin Film piezo printhead technology. It also stated that it has launched a new series of printheads at Drupe exhibition in Germany. The stock received mostly “Buy” rating from various brokers.
Horizon Discovery Group, down 7.2%, announced that it has entered into a collaboration with QIAGEN, a drug research firm, where in its molecular reference standards will be integrated with QIAGEN’s GeneReader next-generation sequencing (NGS) system. The stock received positive ratings from many brokers. Shares of Cyan Holding, down 8.7%, surged on 06 June as the company released its 2015 year-end results.
UK markets closed mostly higher in the previous week, as the UK manufacturing activity expanded more than expected in May. Moreover, UK’s services sector picked up pace in May from a three-year low level reported in April. The FTSE 100 index declined 1.0% to 6,209.6, while the FTSE AIM 100 index gained 1.1% to end at 3,498.1. Moreover, the FTSE techMARK 100 Index rose 0.9% to 3,843.6.
US markets ended mixed in the last week. The ISM manufacturing PMI rose more than expected in May. However, investor sentiment was dented after the economy added fewer than expected jobs in May. The DJIA index declined 0.4% to 17,807.1, while the NASDAQ index added 0.2% to 4,942.5.
