Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner will visit the Raspberry Pi Foundation's Code Club at Park Street Primary School on Friday 3 July to highlight the importance of enriching activities that help young people build confidence, develop new skills and prepare for the future.

The visit comes as the Government launches its new Every Child Can programme, backed by £132.5 million to expand access to enriching activities for children across England. As part of the new Enrichment Framework, Code Club has been recognised as an example of the kind of high-quality STEM activity that helps young people develop creativity, problem-solving skills and confidence beyond the classroom.

During the visit, Daniel will meet pupils taking part in hands-on coding and artificial intelligence projects, seeing how the free after-school club encourages children to become confident digital creators in a fun and supportive environment.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation, based in Cambridge, supports around 2,000 free Code Clubs across the UK, including around 50 in Cambridge and 260 across the East of England. The Foundation now supports almost 9,800 Code Clubs globally, and Code Club has already helped more than two million young people create with digital technology. The charity's ambition is to establish a free Code Club in every school and library across the UK.

Before entering politics, Daniel worked as a computer programmer, giving him a long-standing interest in computing education and the digital skills young people will need in the future.

Daniel Zeichner MP said: "Every child deserves the chance to discover new interests, build confidence and develop the skills they'll need for the future. It's great to see a renewed focus on enriching activities, and I'm particularly proud that a Cambridge organisation is helping lead the way. Code Clubs give young people the opportunity to explore coding and artificial intelligence in a creative, supportive environment while learning valuable skills and having fun."
