Cambridge Network continues to grow to further support the Cambridge ecosystem

Cambridge Network has announced the appointment of John Gourd, formerly of Johnson Matthey, as its new Chief Executive. Claire Ruskin, CEO for the past eight years, continues with the Network in the role of Executive Director.

Claire explains: “We do more and more for members and the wider ecosystem and I have been looking for someone to help.  John is such a valuable addition that I thought it would be great to have him as CEO, so I’m very happy to hand over the badge."

John is joining this month, providing more resource to help with all the requests the Network receives. "Much of my time is spent with members and representing local business interests here and remotely," adds Claire, "so we want John on board to lead the team and continue the growth of what we can offer.  Networks always benefit from fresh eyes too!"

Key activities of peer groups, training, recruiting to Cambridge and organising over 300 events of different sorts in the year are as popular as ever, backed up by the website featuring daily business news and profiles of a large proportion of Cambridge organisations.

Face to face meetings continue to play an important role in Cambridge Network’s culture of collaboration and sharing services.

John comes with experience of many different leadership roles in Johnson Matthey, including senior management, sales and operations, both overseas and in Royston.  John has also shown his skill in cooperation and collaboration in his time as Chair of the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.  He lives in Cambridge and is delighted to be able to put more time into local activities:

“I have been a member of Cambridge Network for some years and have always seen it as immensely practical, well-grounded and helpful – another of Cambridge’s collaborative organisations that other countries envy.  The team delivers a huge amount and I’m very excited to be working with them to make even more happen.”
