Richard Sims

Cambridge Communication Systems (CCS) Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Sims as its new VP of Engineering.  Richard brings to CCS a notable track record in leading engineering teams and driving transformative product development programmes, and will be responsible for scaling CCS’s 60GHz solution and associated cloud management platform.

Immediately prior to joining CCS, Richard was Technical Director for smart safety and communication specialists Avire, having spent the previous 15 years working for a leading technical consultancy and, more recently, as head of engineering for a fast-growing start-up. He holds a Masters in Engineering from Cambridge University, specialising in Electronics and Information Systems Engineering.

Richard now leads CCS’s world-class engineering team, based at the company’s global headquarters in Cambridge, UK, with a focus on developing the solution portfolio for the company’s industry-leading Metnet solution – the world’s first self-organising mmWave mesh for gigabit backhaul and access applications.

Commenting on Richard’s appointment, CCS Executive Chairman Martin Harriman said: “Richard joins CCS in this key role at an exciting time for the business. His impressive experience in leading global development teams and delivering ambitious engineering programmes will be an invaluable asset to CCS as we accelerate our product development capabilities to meet growing market demand worldwide for our solutions, most crucially in 5G small cell network densification and gigabit Fixed Wireless Access.”

CCS’s self-organising mesh technology delivers Gigabit wireless connectivity across multiple applications, including 4G LTE and 5G small cell backhaul, Enterprise and Residential Fixed Wireless Access, Smart City, Wi-Fi and CCTV backhaul. CCS’s innovative 28GHz and 60GHz mmWave Metnet technology is in live deployment around the world, providing Virtual Fibre connectivity for mobile operators and broadband service providers – and to residential and enterprise customers in both urban and rural environments.

About CCS

CCS (Cambridge Communication Systems) is the creator of Metnet – the world’s first self-organising mmWave mesh for Gigabit backhaul and access applications. From dense urban cities to rural communities, Metnet can be deployed for 4G LTE and 5G small cell backhaul, Enterprise and Residential Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), Smart City, Wi-Fi and CCTV backhaul.

In major live deployments, Metnet is powering networks to mmWave 5G performance – intuitively, scalably, flexibly and cost-effectively. Delivering high capacity, ultra-low latency and ultra-fast deployment, Metnet is optimised for performance edge and multigigabit capacity.

Metnet’s proven capability is trusted at the heart of some of the world’s most demanding and data-heavy networks, including a pre-5G network for Telefonica O2 in London, at the heart of the world’s largest financial centre.

With a unique self-organising mesh solution for enabling 5G – and beyond – CCS’s innovation and vision is delivering connectivity around the world.
