Community support for Addenbrooke’s is celebrated

People from Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex and Hertfordshire came along to the celebration to hear Dr Mike More, Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals, Stephen Davies, Chief Executive of ACT, and ACT community ambassador and patient Pete Hobson talk about the important role that charitable support plays in enabling the hospitals deliver a level of care and treatment over and above what would be possible through NHS funding alone.

Among the attendees, which included companies, schools and individuals, were members of the Rocking Ukeles group from Ely who raised £3000 at their concerts and entertained guests at the event, representatives from Links Golf Club in Newmarket who raised £14,465 for ACT’s Addenbrooke’s Breast Cancer Appeal and Jodie Rowlandson who has raised over £23,800 by organising community events for the children’s cancer ward.

Stephen Davies said:“Many people who attended represented groups, companies, clubs and others who have come together to fundraise in support of Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals. If we imagine all the people involved in the fundraising efforts and all the people who gave money, that’s a lot of people who’ve taken action to support the hospitals – lots of special people. It’s a big number £80,000, and charitable support plays a big role in helping patient care be the very best. We are hugely grateful to everyone for their support.”
