Council helps small businesses save money on energy bills

Small businesses can learn how to reduce their energy consumption, make savings on their fuel bills, and enhance their green credentials at a free breakfast workshop next month.

Cambridge City Council is hosting the workshop on energy efficiency for Cambridge-based small or new businesses in partnership with the Carbon Trust, on 9 November at the Future Business Centre in Cambridge.

Those attending will receive training from the Carbon Trust and will be able to find out about support, funding and resources that are available to businesses.

Among the topics to be covered are:

  •     Low- to no-cost energy management, heating and lighting measures that can be carried out at workplaces to reduce energy consumption and save businesses money;
  •     START2ACT, an EU funded programme which provides free energy efficiency consultancy and mentoring for businesses, both in the workplace and online;
  •     Energy audits and capital grants for businesses available through the Business Energy Efficiency Cambridge and Peterborough Programme.

Attendees will also have the chance to speak with Carbon Trust experts and sign up for the support available.

Cllr Richard Robertson, Executive Councillor for Finance and Resources, said: “Through our Climate Change Strategy we are committed to helping businesses and individuals improve their energy efficiency and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.

“I would encourage any small business to attend the Carbon Trust workshop on 9 November, to get some great tips on how they can rapidly lower their energy consumption, and to find out about some of the funding that is available to help them.”

The workshop will take place at the Future Business Centre, King’s Hedges Road, Cambridge CB4 2HY from 8am-10.30am on Thursday 9 November.

Businesses can register for free at the Eventbrite website, or for more information email sustainablecity@cambridge.gov.uk or phone 01223 457176.
