Council supports musical evening in aid of local homelessness charities

Cambridge City Council is supporting an event to raise money and awareness for two homelessness charities.

The Believing In People Concert takes place at Great St Mary’s Church tomorrow (Saturday 14 October) from 7pm-8.30pm.

Entry is free, but all proceeds from a collection will be split between local charities Jimmy’s Cambridge and the Cambridge Churches Homeless Project.

The evening will feature a concert by local band The Broccoli King, with an opening talk by former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams, and speeches about homelessness from local figures.

Cllr Kevin Price, Executive Councillor for Housing, said: “I look forward to this event which will raise awareness of homelessness, which has been worsened by welfare reform and the lack of affordable housing options.

“The concert will also raise money to support the great work of Jimmy’s Cambridge and the Cambridge Churches Homeless Project, who are just two of the homelessness charities we work closely with in Cambridge.”

Jimmy’s Cambridge and Cambridge Churches Homeless Project are among the organisations that, along with the council, support Cambridge Street Aid. This is a charitable fund set up in 2016 which gives grants of up to £750 to help vulnerable people on the streets the support, accommodation and employment they need.
