Demand grows for facilities hire at Cambridge Regional College

Conference rooms, meeting rooms, classrooms and even a restaurant at Cambridge Regional College are proving a big attraction for businesses in the region.

The college set up a conference hire business a year ago to make wider use of its outstanding facilities, and is seeing month-on-month growth as more organisations book rooms for workshops, meetings and seminars.

In a typical week, 10 classrooms are hired for weekend teaching programmes, a Cambridge business will book two rooms for in-house meetings, a business breakfast seminar will be held at the college’s Park Restaurant and the SmartLife conference room will host workshops or a training event.

David McElroy (pictured), who runs the college’s facilities hire business, said it was proving a big success.

“Hiring out our facilities helps support local and regional businesses and generate more private-sector revenue for the college. Bookings have doubled over the last six months with many local employers booking classrooms, boardrooms, construction and engineering areas, bespoke pieces of equipment, the restaurant, conference suite and IT rooms,” he said.

“We host general meetings, board meetings, networking events, company conferences and training courses, and our regular clients include Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, Origami Energy Limited, Arcus Global, The Open University and Cambridgeshire County Council.

“As a bonus we can also provide catering for events, with everything prepared and served by our catering students – which always receives fantastic feedback.”
