Focus on graduate recruitment continues

Although Cambridge Network's university careers fair roadshow - promoting Cambridge as a great place to live and work - is coming to an end, the Network's focus on graduate recruitment continues, with a special Christmas event where graduate employers can meet potential candidates.

If you are a student or a recent graduate who will be in the region during the Christmas holiday, and who is on the lookout for a job or internship opportunity, you are encouraged to sign up for the Recruitment Gateway event at the University Centre, Granta Place, Cambridge, on Wednesday December 19th (4-6pm). (If you know someone who might be interested in coming, please spread the word!)

Several of the region's most prolific graduate employers will be on hand to talk about the opportunities they have on offer. Any others who are signed up to the Recruitment Gateway graduate package are invited to attend too - contact recruitmentgateway@cambridgenetwork.co.uk if you would like to have a stand at the event.

The Recruitment Gateway careers fair roadshow has travelled up and down the country, and Cambridge Network's team has met with literally thousands of students during the course of the past few months. The activity has prompted a surge in interest in the graduate section of the online jobs portal, which clocked up almost 5,000 page views during the past two months.

"We have spoken to scores of undergraduates studying a huge variety of disciplines, telling them about the Cambridge cluster, describing the benefits of living and working in the region, and encouraging them to look into the wealth of opportunities offered by our members," said Hilary Laing, Cambridge Network's COO.

"The result has been a spike in traffic to our jobs pages, and a gratifying increase in applications through the site.

"During the course of the next few months, we plan to carry on promoting Cambridge as a destination for talented graduates by going out to universities and institutions we have yet to reach, and talking to their careers services about what the region's employers have to offer," she added.

The Recruitment Gateway is also proving to be a useful vehicle to enable existing graduate recruits from member companies to connect together socially. Graduate blogs are now being posted regularly, and a series of graduate networking events are planned, to enable those working in the region  or new to the area to build relationships with their peers.
