Franny takes over as Mill Road Coordinator

Franny Ritchie has been appointed by Cambridge City Council as Mill Road Coordinator to boost the fortunes of one of the city’s best-known areas.

She took on the role recently and is already formulating ideas to help businesses on Mill Road to make the most of their unique location.

Her priorities will be to work closely with the existing Mill Road Traders’ Association to help it to grow, and to support it with business development and marketing promotions.

She will work to take forward the popular events programme that includes Mill Road Winter Fair, Midsummer Night Market, Pop-up Cinema and Mill Road Feasts. She will also support voluntary and community organisations in the area.

Franny has lived just off Mill Road for the past four years and before she joined the council she worked for a city centre architectural practice.

In recent times she has been involved in projects to shape the development of a new town in China and the campus for the University of the Highlands and Islands in Inverness.

Commenting on her new role, and its challenges, she acknowledged the success of her predecessor, Ceri Littlechild, who was the council’s first Mill Road Coordinator.

Franny said: “Mill Road has been my community for four years, where I’ve lived, worked and raised my family. I am thrilled to have an opportunity to build on all of the initiatives that Ceri started and supported, and to put my own stamp on the role as well.”

Cllr Carina O’Reilly, Executive Councillor for City Centre and Public Spaces, said: “I am delighted to welcome Franny to her new role. Local centres such as Mill Road offer really important services to residents and that’s why we want to keep up the support for them.

“Mill Road has benefited from having a coordinator for the past three years and I am sure that Franny will be able to build on the successes so far and do even more to support businesses and other organisations in the area.”
