Get a taste of university life this summer

Youngsters in the East of England have until next Wednesday (15 May) to apply for a place on one of Anglia Ruskin University’s free Summer School courses.

The series of exciting residential and non-residential Summer Schools are being held on Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses, as well as The College of West Anglia (Milton campus), University Centre Peterborough and University Centre Harlow.  However, places are limited so students are urged to apply soon to avoid disappointment.

The residential Summer Schools, which include free accommodation in halls of residence, are for Year 12 students, and the subjects offered include enterprise and marketing, science, law and the health profession.

The residential courses involve staying three nights on campus and four days of lectures, practical work and activities.  Working alongside academics and current undergraduates, students will gain a proper insight into university life and their chosen subject area.

The two-day non-residential courses for Years 10 to 12 cover a wide range of subjects including journalism, veterinary nursing, forensic science, animation and architecture.

Nicola Lumb of Anglia Ruskin said: “These courses are a unique opportunity for students to get a real taste of what it is like to go to university.

“They are a great way for students to make new friends, explore a subject in greater detail and, in the case of the residential Summer School, fully immerse themselves in university life by staying in halls of residence.

“Because the courses are based around some of the degrees on offer at Anglia Ruskin, the students are taught by Anglia Ruskin academics, with the assistance of current undergraduate students.  Participation in any of the Summer Schools will be a fantastic addition to any UCAS personal statement and will also look good on student’s CV.”

The series of free courses run from 17 June until 9 July.  The closing date for applications is 15 May, although applications may be considered after this date if places are still available. To apply, please visit www.anglia.ac.uk/summerschools
