Hewitsons appoints Colin Jones as Managing Partner as John Dix steps down

Leading law firm Hewitsons LLP has announced the appointment of Colin Jones as its new Managing Partner following the decision of John Dix to step down after ten years.

Colin Jones’ new position as Managing Partner has been established as part of a Management Board to enable him to continue his work as a construction law specialist. As a long term partner at Hewitsons, Colin Jones has been instrumental in contributing to the growth of the firm’s client base and specialisms, including real estate, education, renewable energy and procurement. Colin Jones will take over from the departing John Dix on 20 October 2014.

John Dix joined Hewitsons’ more than 25 years ago and has served as Managing Partner for the last ten. On reaching the ten year milestone, John Dix decided that the time was right to take on a new challenge and is leaving the firm to become Bursar at the University of Cambridge’s Darwin College.

Speaking of the new appointment, the departing Managing Partner John Dix said: “Colin is an exceptional member of the Hewitsons team and has contributed comprehensively to many aspects of the firm’s growth. His drive for developing the business, along with his experience on the board, means he’s perfectly placed to take the firm forward.”

Colin Jones, new Managing Partner at Hewitsons, said: “I am delighted to have been chosen to take on the mantle from John who leaves us with a firm foundation for taking Hewitsons forward. We are in a position to work with clients from bases across the central region of the UK and in London too and via our international network of law firms which now covers 27 countries in Europe, the Americas, Australia and the Far East. My partners and I are looking forward to continuing John’s excellent work in driving the firm’s development and growth.”

He continues: “John has made a huge contribution to the organisation, leading it through a global economic downturn and returning it to a period of sustained growth. He has also been instrumental in expanding the firm and we could not be more pleased for him in regard to his new role at Darwin College. He will remain a good friend of the firm and everyone at Hewitsons wishes him well for the future.”

In addition to his new role as Managing Partner at Hewitsons, Colin Jones is a Governor of St Mary’s School, Cambridge, Chairman of the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry, a highly active and influential body regionally, and is involved in groups including the Society of Construction Law, Interact, Cambridge CleanTech and is adviser to the national professional bodies, The Association of Consultant Architects and The British Institute of Interior Design.
