Integrating touch screen technology explored at UK Device Developers' Conference

Specialist display technology company, Intelligent Embedded Solutions will be giving a presentation on applying Touch Screen Technology at the Device Developers' Conference in May.

The Device Developers’ Conference is a one-day event, taking place at Bristol, Cambridge and Manchester on May 14th, 16th and 22nd respectively.

The technology, Projected Capacitive Touch, is now the first choice for touch projects in device development. This technology can be considered to incorporate the best of competing touch technologies. Projected Capacitive Touch screens can be bonded to toughened glass, making them virtually unbreakable. The touch sensors will allow operation from various types of gloves from cotton to surgical. These rugged touch screens are immune to most chemicals due to the typical glass front surface, and can be easily sealed to meet requirements for wash down environments.

"This is an exciting technology that is now becoming mainstream and widely available," said Adrian Amor, Technical Directorof Intelligent Embedded Solutions. "Projective Capacitive Touch offers a number of benefits such as long life, excellent optical properties, Multi-Touch and no requirement for continuous calibration. This presentation will introduce engineers to what is possible and how best to go about incorporating this technology into a new project."

Covering electronic design, embedded hardware, embedded software, debug tools, PCB design, enclosure design and test and manufacturing, this event is the first UK conference of its type to address the requirements of the entire development team.

The Device Developers’ Conference includes a selection of half-day technical workshops, a schedule of informative presentations and an exhibition of industry vendors. The conference, including the agenda of technical presentations, and the exhibition, is free to engineers, engineering students and project managers in the technical sector but there will be a small charge is for the ½ day technical workshops.

“This event provides engineers and programmers with an opportunity to meet a broad range of experts in their field,” said Richard Blackburn, Event Organiser. “A chance for them to explore new technologies, discover new tools and learn how other engineers are overcoming the challenges when working to create market leading products and advanced electronic systems.”

Intelligent Embedded Solutions will also be exhibiting at the Conference, providing engineers and developers with the opportunity to see some of its latest products and the chance to discuss project challenges with an expert in the field of display technology.

The Device Developers’ Conference is run in three locations to enable easy access for engineers whilst also minimising travel time and hotel costs. Other presentations at the event will discuss such topics as the exploitation of high performance, low power smart phone technology for industrial applications, the management of Open Source Software for commercial projects, the many benefits of advanced debug tools, how to write code that will be portable and using advanced PCB CAD tools.

About The Device Developers’ Conference
The Device Developers’ Conference is planned to be an annual UK event for the developers of intelligent systems and devices. The 2013 event will take place in May, in Cambridge, Bristol and Manchester.

The objective is to provide an event that provides engineers with an opportunity to learn about the latest tools, technologies and techniques for the successful development of leading edge electronic products and systems.

Sponsored by a broad range of industry vendors, the exhibition and conference, including a series of 40-minute technical presentations, is free to engineers and project managers working in the technology sector.  Half-day workshops in various specialisms are available at a small charge.
