Internet: is the network that connects all the wonderful servers, pcs, Apple Macs, Ipads, tablets and other devices to one another (or each other?) globally. Using protocols, they can talk to one another, one to many and so on.
Web: or more correctly World Wide Web, is a way of accessing information services and other good stuff on the Internet. Using HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) and browsers (Safari, Explorer, Firefox, Chrome), information can be transmitted and viewed on the Internet.
Hey, give me an example!
Okay, so you want to buy a product online? Go to your favourite online retailer using a browser and you will be on the Web. Use their app and you will be accessing the information using the Internet directly.
Another good example is email: this is a good example of using the Internet (and some protocols) to shift your comments and pictures of kittens around the world.
Although many use the terms interchangeably, we think it is important to know the difference. We also still capitalise the word Internet: call us old fashioned high tech geeks.
