Since the introduction of the scheme in 2014, more than 1400 residents have switched energy suppliers in Cambridgeshire and benefited from savings of more than £200 per household per year.
The current Cambridgeshire Energy Switch round is due to close on 12 February 2018, so residents are being encouraged to take the opportunity to join other residents with the chance to save money on their energy bills.
Collective switching schemes are a way of reducing householders’ energy bills. In these schemes individual households join forces, and the power of bulk buying is used to negotiate better deals with energy suppliers. The more people that join, the more savings that can be potentially made.
The council is offering this scheme in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and iChoosr.
Residents can register to take part at no cost. Once the energy switch supplier auction has taken place, those who registered to take part will be sent details of the winning bid.
If residents accept the winning bid offer then iChoosr takes care of the entire switching process. There is no is no obligation to accept the offer.
Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities said: “I would urge all residents to register to see if they can get a better deal on their energy bills. The Cambridgeshire Energy Switch makes switching easy, and gives residents the opportunity to compare their current tariff against market prices.
“We are very keen to support schemes such as these as they can play a significant role in helping residents make more of their money, especially those who may be struggling with the high cost of living in Cambridge.”

People needing assistance with an application or people without access to the internet can call the council’s Customer Service Centre on 01223 457900.
Anyone missing out on the auction deadline still has until 27 March to access the offer for the winning bidder.
