Laura is CRC's Construction Apprentice of the Year

Outstanding apprentice Laura McManus proved more than a match for the boys at Cambridge Regional College when she picked up the top award for Apprentice of the Year.

The 27 year-old Heating and Ventilating apprentice, who works for CPS Building Services Engineers, was praised for her drive and ambition, and her determination to become the best in her trade.

The award, sponsored by builders’ merchants Ridgeons, was announced at CRC’s annual construction awards ceremony, designed to celebrate the achievements of the best students and apprentices at the college.

Laura’s assessor, Martin Johnston, said she was an exceptional student and a stand-out winner of the award.

“Laura is one of just two women in our H&V programme and has great drive and ambition, as well as exceptional practical skills. She is someone who goes that extra mile, even risking a job change so she can achieve her goal of becoming the best pipe fitter welder.

“In a male-dominated area where physical strength may play a part in how you progress, she has always found a way to complete difficult tasks with ease and a high level of competence and skills.

“She is constantly trying to move forward with her training and always looking at ways to increase her knowledge and enhance her skills,” he said.
