London Stansted Airport requests help from Network members

Support from Cambridge Network members for direct long haul routes from London Stansted Airport would be welcomed, say the Airport owners. They are asking for feedback from local businesses to strengthen their case to airlines.

The owners of Stansted Airport, Manchester Airports Group (MAG), write:

As you will be aware, Stansted has recently come under our ownership. We are drawing up ambitious plans to expand the route network and are already in discussions with a number of long-haul airlines. To bring the region’s demand to life, we urgently need information from businesses to prove that demand exists for long haul flights from Stansted to both the east and west – from the Far and Middle East to the USA.

Airlines do not currently understand the needs of businesses, particularly the hi-tech industry in our area, and direct feedback from local companies will help to change this perception and attract long-haul airlines to your local airport.

To this end, we are asking Cambridge Network members to request information to support the campaign, notably:

  • details concerning your company’s travel – i.e. where people in your company travel to, what cities they fly to and how many times per year
  • a supportive (but non-committal) company-headed letter to say that new long haul services from Stansted would be beneficial to your business and its future growth and would be supported

This sort of intelligence can truly make a difference as to whether an airline invests in a new route, or not.

If you are happy to participate, please send your responses directly to andrew_harrison@stanstedairport.com

We hope that as Network members you will be able to present a collective view of the underlying demand that exists in this region and this will attract these key long haul services to Stansted Airport.

Thank  you.
