Those of us who work in sales and marketing will no doubt be very well acquainted with Microsoft PowerPoint, and last week's Ignite announcements included a few new fun features for creating much sexier presentations, much more easily. My favourite of these is the new PowerPoint Designer "Design Ideas" feature, in the Design tab.
PowerPoint Designer takes your content and automatically generates a range of ideas for you to choose from that make your slides look better. While you are putting content into your presentation, PowerPoint Designer works in the background to match your content to different professionally designed layouts, as shown below:
(Image removed)This is fantastic for someone like me, who very easily gets sucked into the whole "I'll just move that picture a smidge to the left, and make that word blue..." and then before I know it I've wasted half an hour colouring in a text box. Not productive at all.
PowerPoint Designer helps you to style slides with multiple images on, so your slide goes from this:

Another clever feature of PowerPoint Designer is its ability to detect process-oriented text and turn it into an easily readable SmartArt graphic to represent that process, turning your slide from a list of mundane bullet points...

(Image removed)I find this feature particularly useful, because while I always envision elegantly designed slides and beautifully presented information, I seem to lack the ability to translate those ideas into PowerPoint reality. I am not a designer, and my final result is never quite as polished as I had hoped, but now the new PowerPoint Designer can do all the hard work for me, meaning that I can concentrate on creating quality content, and leave the design to the experts.
Have a play and let me know what you think in the comments section below!
