Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, visited the nearly completed new home of GSK’s R&D operations in the UK, on Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Meeting with Jason Longhurst, UK Head of Sustainable Investment and Partnerships and Andrew Blevins, SVP Life Sciences at Prologis, Mayor Bristow toured the site where the first building, 2000 Discovery Drive, is nearing completion and a further two interconnected buildings will soon be located. The three buildings together will deliver a biodiversity net gain of 32 percent for habitats and 62 percent for hedgerows on the site.
2000 Discovery Drive will provide six floors of specialist life sciences facilities, with a mix of laboratory and office space across 112,000 sq. ft, supporting GSK’s research in Oncology, Respiratory, Hepatology, Vaccines and HIV.
To the rear of the building, and for the benefit of all occupants of 2000, 3000 and 4000 Discovery Drive, there is an innovative semi-sunken CycleParc, providing safe and secure parking for 450 bicycles, covered by accessible biodiverse meadow space and public realm.
The imminent arrival of GSK in Cambridge is a significant milestone for Cambridge Biomedical Campus, and in Prologis’s long-term investment in one of the world’s leading life-sciences ecosystems, where biomedical research, patient care, academia and industry come together to support the discovery and development of new medicines. The development represents £500 million of foreign direct investment by Prologis into Cambridge.
