MP puts on boxing gloves

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner will visit a Cambridge boxing gym that punches above its weight as it re-opens its doors for the first time since the Covid shutdown.

Tomorrow (Friday 31 July), he will meet coach Gary Davidson, a key worker hero who is employed by the NHS by day, and is a volunteer boxing coach in the evenings.

Gary says we need a gloves off approach in the fight against obesity and is keen his gym will play its part.

The inclusive Albion Boxing Club on Cherry Hinton Road caters for men, women and children and their youngest boxer is just four years old.

They never once wanted to throw in the towel during coronavirus emergency, and restarted outdoor training a few weeks ago. They are now delighted to finally open their indoor ring.

There will be plenty of Covid secure measures in place and a reduction in the number of people per class from 30 to 12 to allow for social distancing.

Daniel Zecihner MP said: "We know keeping fit and healthy is important in the fight against coronavirus. Well done to Gary and his team of 12 volunteer coaches to be stepping up to the challenge."
