Multimeter becomes clamp meter with optional current clamp

In October 2018, PCE Instruments added the PCE-HDM 20 to their range of products. This digital multimeter measures current, voltage, capacitance, frequency, resistance and temperature.

The latter can be measured from a safe distance via infrared or by using the K-type thermocouple that comes with the test instrument. The meter also measures the duty cycle and can be used for diode tests and continuity tests.

With an optional current clamp, the PCE-HDM 20 can also be used as a clamp meter. The PCE-HDM 20-CLAMP allows the user to measure coil currents of up to 3000 A at an accuracy of ±(0.8 % of measurement value +5 digits).

To keep the energy consumption low, the PCE-HDM 20 shuts down automatically after 15, 30 or 60 minutes of inactivity. The Auto Power Off time can be selected by the user or even deactivated. The MAX/MIN function and the HOLD function can be very useful in some applications. It fulfils the overvoltage categories CAT IV 600 V and CAT III 1000 V. The sensor type is an uncooled microbolometer.

A very cool feature of this test instrument is that it has an integrated thermal imager. This makes it a very handy allrounder for lots of different applications.

The basic package of the PCE-HDM 20 (without the current clamp) contains the meter itself, two test leads, a K-type thermocouple probe, two Li-ion batteries, a charger, a power plug + 3 attachments for power plug, an 8 GB microSD card, a magnet, a fabric loop a temperature adapter and a user manual.

For little money, this multimeter can easily be turned into a clamp meter.
