New trainees show Hewitsons ‘trains to retain’

Seven of the next generation of solicitors have started their two-year traineeship at Hewitsons - the legal practice with offices in Cambridge, London, Northampton and Milton Keynes, which places absolute focus on its clients.

In addition to the seven new trainees, the firm’s existing nine trainees are now going into their second year, moving to different areas of the business, growing their expertise in a range of legal practice areas.

Trainee solicitors join Hewitsons for a two-year fixed training period, rotating between departments biannually. Hewitsons specialises in most major areas of law, allowing the annual intake of newly-qualified trainees to benefit from its wide-ranging expertise. The aim of the intake is to enable trainees to be mentored by highly-experienced partners at the firm, passing on their knowledge to the next generation of solicitors.

Trainees complete six-month seats in four different areas of law giving them the experience to see which area suits their career path best.

Throughout the two-year period, the firm’s partners coach them in an array of legal skills, through both formal training sessions and practical experience. They also assist with cases, interviews, attend court hearings, as well as regularly liaising with clients, and accompanying solicitors to site visits and legal briefings.

Whilst the now second years move in to their third seats, another seven have begun their traineeships at Hewitsons, having completed their degrees with outstanding results and showing a genuine passion and commitment to the firm and the profession.

In CAMBRIDGE, Salvatore D’Arrigo has taken his first seat in the agriculture team and Casey Murphy has been placed in the property division. In addition, Thomas Leech and Edith Nnotum have moved to the corporate and the property teams.

In NORTHAMPTON, new trainees Gregory Hill, Thomas Nation, Victoria Robinson and Oliver Silk have joined the contentious, property, private wealth and agriculture teams.

In addition, Husnain Ali, Anastassia Dimmek, Emma Elston, Joe Greenstock and Charlotte Herrington are going in to their second year and third seats, working with the firm’s corporate, commercial litigation, contentious trusts & probate, employment and property and construction teams.

In MILTON KEYNES, trainee James Owen has joined the property team whilst Saffa Mir has moved to the charities team at the office in Midsommer Boulevard.

Colin Jones, managing partner at Hewitsons said: “We aim to provide the highest quality of training for our up-and-coming solicitors. We have a high rate of trainee retention and are proud that our ‘training to retain’ aim is being achieved.

“The trainees at Hewitsons continue to demonstrate a real talent and passion to the legal practice. The partners, solicitors and employees look forward to seeing and helping them progress in their careers.”
