The internet is quickly moving towards more secure communication. In January this year, more than 50% of all internet traffic used the secure HTTPS protocol for the first time. It has become a norm for large technology companies, but many small companies started using HTTPS on their servers as well.
One may say that a key enabler of HTTPS was Let's Encrypt, a not-for-profit organization providing free certificates, which need to be installed on any secure server. The main goal of Let's Encrypt is to make insecure HTTP protocol obsolete. Another goal is to make server administrators automate management of security configurations of their servers. That's why they decide to provide certificates, which need to be renewed every three months.
The problem with automation is that things break and it's embarrassing when your customers and clients have to ring you up to say that your web server or your cloud service is down because its HTTPS certificate has expired. Suddenly, even small companies have to deal with security management issues usually experienced by corporations.
