The Cambridge Regional College apprentice scooped the British Woodworking Federation’s Joinery Apprentice of the Year title for her outstanding work and exceptional skill.
The judges praised her technical competence on projects that would challenge the most skillful joiners and said she had a glittering career ahead of her.
“Just months into her career, Imogen has demonstrated the technical competence and maturity to work on projects that would challenge some of the most skillful joiners,” said Iain McIlwee, chief executive of the BWF.
“Her work ethic and woodworking skills impressed the awards judges, and we have no doubt that she is set for a glittering career in this industry.”
Imogen started her career in joinery as a student at CRC before moving on to an apprenticeship with Law & Lewis, which specialises in bespoke joinery and cabinet-making. She was nominated for the award by her employers for her exceptional skill and dedication.
She said she hoped her win would encourage more women into the industry.
“Winning this award is a massive boost to my confidence and motivates me for the next level of my apprenticeship and the future of my career. I’ll be dreaming bigger now than I had ever thought before,” she said.
“I’d love to see more women in joinery. We’re so outnumbered at the moment, but it’s a great industry for women.”
She also paid tribute to her course tutor at Cambridge Regional College, Mike Worth, who said she was exceptionally skilled and a very deserving winner.
