A partnership between Anglia Ruskin University and Perdana University will produce world-leading research into psychological medicine.

The Centre for Psychological Medicine (PU-CPM) will be a strategic research initiative between the two institutions, maximising opportunities for research, innovation, and education in Malaysia. It will provide a strong platform for Anglia Ruskin and Perdana to become major hubs of excellence for research in psychology and psychiatry.

The work of the centre will model cultural understanding, promote in-depth and critical understandings of local psychologies, and conduct world-leading research that explores the human condition.

PU-CPM will create new knowledge about how we think and behave, foster and inform intellectual debate, and create a hub of research activities in psychological medicine and allied fields.

Director of PU-CPM, Professor Viren Swami, said:

“This collaboration brings together two leading universities dedicated to addressing unmet opportunities for international research collaboration.

“It represents a vital and unique opportunity for scientists at Anglia Ruskin University and Perdana University to build an international hub of research on psychological medicine in Malaysia.”

Research projects will be chosen and developed by a committee chaired by Professor Swami and Deputy Director of PU-CPM, Dr David Barron, who said:

“This is a tremendous opportunity to conduct world-leading research that will have a real impact on the state of psychological medicine in Southeast Asia.

“I am confident this agreement will lead to real advances that benefit not just scholarly activity, but also the wider population.”

Professor Zabidi Hussin, Acting Vice-Chancellor of Perdana University, said:

“Psychological Medicine is set to occupy a leading role in all areas of health in future.

“The partnership between Perdana University and Anglia Ruskin University in this area of research represents a strategic partnership that is set to go far, beyond the shores of Malaysia.”
