'Pioneer' Principal needed for new University Technical College

The search has started for a Principal to head the new University Technical College for Cambridge – a ground-breaking innovation in education for 14 to 19 year-olds pioneered by Cambridge Regional College and Cambridge University Health Partners.

The successful applicant for the role will help “change the face of education”, leading a college which will specialise in Biomedical and Environmental Science and Technology in outstanding purpose-built facilities, says UTC project manager Laurence Wells.

“We are looking for someone to help us realise our vision and change science education in the region by offering something new for 14 to 19 year-olds,” he said.

“This is the chance to establish a brand new way of learning, working with world-class sponsors to deliver an exciting, relevant and dynamic education. Every student will leave ready to take up their place in the global scientific workforce.”

The new Principal will take up the role from September this year, with responsibility for everything from recruiting staff to managing the £10 million build project for the UTC, planned for Robinson Way in Cambridge and due to open in September 2014.

“They will be responsible for seeing everything is ready for the doors to open in September 2014. We’re looking for a pioneer, someone who will inspire staff and learners alike and work with global employers to deliver an exciting and innovative curriculum,” said Laurence.

Applicants for the £80,000-a-year role have until 22 March to apply. To find out more about the Principal’s role see http://www.tes.co.uk/job/principal-119770/ or for more information on the UTC, go to www.utccambridge.co.uk
