The screening of the film, which stars Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton and Paddy Considine, is followed by a Q&A with Mike Carey, the writer of the screenplay and the original source novel.

Carey, who has a background as a prolific comic book writer for the likes of DC Comics, Marvel and 2000 AD, was shortlisted for a BAFTA in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category at this year’s ceremony.

Dr Helen Marshall, Director of Anglia Ruskin’s Centre for Science Fiction and Fantasy, said: “Mike Carey is a luminary in science fiction and fantasy, having delivered influential, genre-defining works over a 25 year career that has included runs on the comics Hellblazer, Constantine and Lucifer, as well as bestselling novels such as The Girl with All the Gifts.

“Working so imaginatively across form and genre, it’s no exaggeration to say that Mike has significantly reshaped the science fiction and fantasy landscapes in recent years.  The Girl with All the Gifts is absolutely stunning – moving, thought-provoking and seriously scary.

“To meet the author for a Q&A after the film will be especially valuable for all our writers, screenwriters and comic book creators.  We’re excited that the Centre for Science Fiction and Fantasy is hosting such events, and hope they also appeal to members of the public.”

The film screening (certificate 15) and Q&A will take place in the Mumford Theatre on 4 April (3-6pm) and is free to attend.  For further information and to reserve a place, please visit https://tinyurl.com/grfgvqk
