Risk management masterclass for Higher Education students at Cambridge Regional College

The risks of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo injuring a leg or singer Olly Murs losing his voice – and the financial impact for insurers – gave students a practical problem-solving exercise in risk management at a business workshop at Cambridge Regional College.

The higher education Business students, studying on HNC and HND programmes at the college, received the first-hand experience of risk calculation during a masterclass from the London Chartered Institute of Insurers.

The Institute’s Caspar Bartington focused the workshop on risk management using real examples of the financial calculations needed to ensure all sorts of risks could be insured – and revealed that actress Julia Roberts’ teeth are insured for $30million.

Business lecturer Silvia Duedal, who organised the masterclass, said it had provided a real insight into the world of insurance.

“The students were fascinated by the risks that need to be underwritten by insurers and totally engrossed throughout the workshop,” she said.

“Calculating risks themselves gave them a real taste of life in the insurance world and we are very grateful to Casper and the Chartered Institute of Insurers for providing such a great workshop.”
