At the beginning of the new year, many workers who have returned to their hometowns for Chinese New Year have not returned to work. For SAIC Passenger Car's Lingang Plant, which is full of production orders, there is no panic in dealing with this situation. Here, the robots are "in charge of the house".
The 477 welding robots in the body shop can automatically pick up various parts for assembly and welding in sequence; the robots in the assembly shop have been able to accurately find the engines corresponding to different models and deliver them to the production line, to achieve mixed production of various models, with an average of one vehicle rolling off the assembly line every 76 seconds.
Smart factories are the main front for the digital transformation of Shanghai's manufacturing industry, involving integrated applications such as smart equipment and smart robots. Shanghai is promoting the construction of smart factories by classification and accelerating the layout of the new digital economy track.

At the Lingang factory, every new car needs to go through the test of 4,000 close-up photos in 30 seconds. Through 17 sets of cameras to take pictures of exterior parts at the same time, the system can automatically prevent errors and alarm the assembly of all exterior parts of the online vehicle in real time.

Smart assembly in the final assembly workshop
The Lingang factory has built the first demonstration production line of an unmanned body workshop in China, which has reached the world-class level.
The newly launched "Digital Marketing Transparent Order" allows users to understand the car manufacturing process in real time on the cloud through the mobile APP, and realises the interconnection between users and production.

The latest data shows that the density of robots in key industries in Shanghai has reached 383 units per 10,000 workers, which is higher than the national average of 246 units. If this indicator is compared with the world, it has surpassed the fourth-ranked country, Germany (371).
At Shanghai Xinshida Electric in Jiading, robots on the production line are mass-producing and self- assembling too. This Shanghai local company, which has been established for more than 20 years, is the one with the highest density of self-owned brand robots in Shanghai. At present, all four of its factories are building digital factories, and the density of robots has reached nearly 1,000 units/10,000 workers.
