The Sage of Cambridge gains cafe' scientifique status

The Sage of Cambridge, the cafe at The Fellows House, is the cafe' scientifique for Cambridge thanks to the Orators & Storytellers series.

Dave Neale talks about the psychology of play and relates his experience as game inventor

The Sage of Cambridge, the cafe of The Fellows House, a new aparthotel under the Hilton curio brand, has gained cafe' scientifique status for Cambridge with the Orators & Storytellers (O&S) series, which started in June 2022.

Occurring twice a month, the O&S series aims to showcase Cambridge's brightest minds but is also starting to attract talented speakers from other universities. Orators are academics or experts, while storytellers are creative people - so far The Sage had a creative writer, a non-fiction writer and will host a filmmaker on 18 August.

The series is on The Fellows House's Eventbrite page. So far speakers have come from the University of Cambridge and the local community, but there is a speaker from Durham University scheduled in September.

The organiser, marketing director Simone Castello, is keen to reach out to scientists (humanities, social sciences, science) who are open to deliver a public talk on their research.

September speakers will focus on environmental topics, in particular the use of plastics and renewable energy sources.

Past talks included artificial intelligence applied to medicine and the psychology of play (Dr Dave Neale, pictured above).
